How to Join ISI in 2022 - Tips for Career in ISI, Pakistan
  • ISI gets majority of his officers from Pak Army, Navy and PAF on deputation; however, it may not be very good idea to consider joining Army, Navy or PAF first, merely because you want to go to ISI.
  • Other way is to join ISI directly as civilians.
  • The intake for civilians is through the position of Assistant Director (Grade 17.)
  • The Ministry of Defence advertises these (usually once every two years) as AD Ministry of Defence. you can not guess easily that for which intelligence agency you are applying.
  • The National Testing Service (NTS) handles the initial examinations and then forwards the lists of shortlisted candidates to the ISI.
  • For civilians, recruitment is advertised and is jointly handled by the Federal Public Services Commission (FPSC) and ISI
  • Based on the results of FPSC shortlists the candidates and sends the list to the ISI which then, conducts the initial background checks.
  • The selected candidates are then invited for an interview which is conducted by a joint committee comprising both ISI and FPSC officials.​
  • Those candidates who pass the interview, then have to go through rigorous fitness, medical and psychological evaluations followed by security checks
  • Recruited agents then go to the Inter-Services Intelligence School for basic training following which, they are employed on an initial one year probationary period.​
  • Most candidates will clear the initial written test but won't make it in interview.
  • Your general knowledge, IQ level, EQ level, family background, decision power, personality traits are evaluated in interview and psychological test.

job of Assistant Director in ISI
Assistant Director ISI is a 17 Grade Officer .. Permanent Govt employee, promoted up to Dir General rank (Grade 21)
Gender: Male / Female
Eligibility:
Age: 21 to 28, relax-able to 35
Qualification: Bachelor's Degree (BA, BSC, BE) - Minimum Second Division - HEC approved university (Preference will be given to those who possess Masters or higher degree in subjects of Economics, Political Science, IR, Defense and Strategic Studies, and Computer Science/ IT)
Grade: 17

Steps / Testing Process for Selection of AD in ISI
  • Normally recruitment happens every year and even twice a year as well.
  • Jobs are listed as AD Ministry of Defense and Tests are conducted at NTS
  • Recruitment is jointly handled by the Federal Public Services Commission (FPSC)
  • The FPSC conducts various examinations testing the candidate's knowledge of current affairs, English and various analytical abilities. Based on the results, the FPSC shortlists the candidates and sends the list to the ISI who conduct the initial background checks.
  • Selected candidates are then invited for an interview which is conducted by a joint committee comprising both ISI and FPSC officials.
  • The selected persons are then sent to the Defence Services Intelligence Academy (DSIA) for six months of training.
  • Later, these officers are transferred to different sections for open source information where they serve for five years.
    After five years of basic service, officers are entrusted with sensitive jobs and declared the core team of ISI.
  • Registration / application through FPSC - Website; https://fpsc.gov.pk/ (can also be any provincial service commission as well)
    Examination may include:
  • - Written Exam / MCQs - 100 Questions to be passed for next level.
  • Passed Candidates give another Test for English.
  • Psychological / personality tests.
  • Interview by Selection Board
  • Security Clearance.
  • Medical Tests.

Essay: 100 Marks, Time 3 hrs, 2500 to 3000 words
