Cadet Colleges in Pakistan, help students to lead a disciplined life and polish talent of an individuals. The cadets are brought up in a way that they can sustain hardships / challenges of life with courage. Cadets also tend to perform well in competitive exams such as CSS, PCS and PMS. In Pakistan their is lot of enthusiasm, for cadet colleges admission. However, many candidate fail in the tests for cadet colleges. Right guidelines for admission in cadet colleges can be useful for future cadets as well as parents.

History of Cadet Colleges in Pakistan:
  • In 1922 the British Indian Army established the King George Royal Indian Military Schools (KGRIMS) in Punjab Province at Jalandhar Cantonment.
  • It has an extension campus at Jhelum for the purpose of providing education to the sons of the Other Ranks of the Army.
  • After independence and partition the Jhelum campus was upgraded to the status of a military college and is known as Military College Jhelum.
  • In the late 1990s many private Cadet Colleges also came up.
  • Renowned Cadet College in private sector include Cadet College Fateh Jang , Cadet College Kallar Kahar, Cadet College Jhelum and Cadet College Rawalpindi
What is admission process of Cadet Colleges in Pakistan? How to get admission in a cadet college?

Admission in cadet colleges is done at two levels:
  1. At 6th/7th/ 8th class...This is normal and preferred method. The admission are obviously done at start of academic year i.e.February to March and October to November
  2. In First year: May to June

Entrance test for cadet colleges is relatively easier for early classes (i.e. 7th and 8th class admission) as compared to elder group i.e. after first year. So its better that you should get admission in cadet colleges in junior classes like 6th or 8th.
The Entrance test for Cadet Colleges comprise:
  • Multiple choice questions about Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Every day Science, Current Affairs, Pakistan Studies, History, Geography, General Knowledge, English,Urdu and Islamic Studies.
  • Some Psychological and IQ testing questions are also asked.
  • After written exam, the student who qualify are called for interview for final selection.
  • Books are available in the market for guidance about cadet college admission test. One should, however, start preparation right from early calsses (instead of spending one - two months at the end.
Will the Cadet College Students / cadets be selected automatically for Armed Forces of Pakistan?

Cadets in the cadet colleges are prepared by Armed forces personal to increase their chances of selection at ISSB. However, There is no guarantee that students of cadet colleges will become commissioned officers in Army Air Force or Navy. But these colleges polish the talent of students and in case of failure in joining the army they still learn the art of living and competing. Large number of such students succeed in joining the Pak army.

Are the students from Cadet Colleges Given Preference in ISSB over civilians.
No, there is no policy at issb for giving preference to the students of cadet colleges or any other category over any other category.
It's an incorrect assumption that one cannot join army without getting admission in cadet colleges. Same way, its not correct to assume that students of cadet colleges are automatically selected for armed forces of Pakistan. It must however, be remembered, that cadet colleges polishes their students better than other colleges in Pakistan. This aspects may enhance the chance of students to make it on merit, in any competitive exam.
